Dahl, R., & Blake, Q. (1988). Matilda. New York, N.Y.: Viking Kestrel.
Matilda is a book about a five year old girl, named Matilda, who is extremely smart for her age. She absolutely loves reading and will take on any book for a challenge. Unfortunately, her parents are not the best. They are self-centered. Not to mention her school’s principle, Mrs. Trunchbull, is really tough and mean. I loved this book so much I read it multiple times hoping that if I read a lot, I would be able to have a superpower as well. Because Matilda read so much, she was able to develop a power that let her control things with her mind. I was very jealous of her. In the classroom, we can have the students write about a superpower that they would like to have, and how they got that superpower. For example, I would like to teleport to places because it would be easier than driving and walking. I got this superpower after wishing I was never late to places I had to be at.
